American Bald Eagles are now recovering from a drastic situation associated with the arrival of emigrants to North America, city expansion, and agriculture development. These birds are still threatened, yet their numbers are believed to become steady in some regions. They can live for about 30 years in the wild, yet due to a number of threats, the average life span is less and ranges between 15 and 20 years.
American Bald Eagles are predators that are considered the top species of the food chain. They are very sensitive to chemicals, as any elements consumed by the animals of the lower food link are likely to be eaten by the American Bald Eagle.
The American Bald Eagles' body temperature is about 102 degrees Fahrenheit. The species is well adapted to cold temperatures, as it has effective protection (feathering). The feet of the bird are almost insensitive to cold, as they are mostly tendon.
American Bald Eagles Information - Social Structure
The American Bald Eagle pairs for life with both the male and female participating in raising the young. They are good nest builders and tender parents. However, in the case whereby one of the partners dies, the other will replace it with a new partner.
American Bald Eagles communicate by a high-pitched voice. These birds do not have vocal cords, but produce the sound with the syrinx, a body chamber. The voice is used during courtship and as a warning signal.

The Northern Bald eagle inhabits the northern two-thirds of the continent, including Nebraska, and winters in Oklahoma, Texas, Florida, and Arizona. The Southern Bald eagle lives along the Atlantic coast, in the Mississippi Valley, and in California, Arizona and New Mexico. These species don't migrate.
